Miriam Piven Cotler, PhD - Panelist
Professor Emeritus, CSUN, Clinical Ethicist



Miriam Piven Cotler, Ph.D. has been teaching and doing medical ethics since 1986. She is also a clinical ethicist at several hospitals. Dr. Cotler received her MS PH in 1980 and a Ph.D. in 1985 from the UCLE School of Public Health. She has also serves a distinguished scholar in the Bioethics Institute graduate program at Loyola Marymount University and is a Professor Emeritus at CSUN where she currently teaches a seminar in clinical and organizational ethics. Dr. Cotler has served as chair of the Health Services Department and the Director of the Center for Healthcare Ethics and Policy at CSUN as well as Visiting Professor at UCLA in the School of Public Health.

Dr. Cotler has authored over 70 peer review publications and presented around the world. She is a consultant to the California Medical Association Ethics Advisory Council. She is also a member of the Steering Committee of the International Project for Teaching Medical Ethics at UNESCO and on the editorial board of Journal of Alternative Cancer Therapy and the International Journal of Law and Ethics.
